Imperial TIE Fighter

Imperial TIE Fighter modelled entirely in Autodesk Maya, baked and textured in Substance 3D painter with look development and rendering completed in the Foundry's Katana.

This project was inspired from the original star wars films and the love that went into creating them. the TIE fighter has always been a symbol of power and force for the empire and this piece was able to capture every bit of that.

This project was one of my final assignments before finishing my studies, it is by far the largest and most complex model i have ever created and i loved every second of bringing it to life. i started with the model in Autodesk Maya, using instancing and efficient topology to ensure for optimization, the entire model once finished spread across 17 unique UDIMs that maximized the potential for bringing hyper detail into the textures to ensure that this model holds up at any distance. for the texturing i made it a goal of mine to create every material from the ground up, every single material, decal and normal detail was hand made by myself either in photoshop, Substance 3D designer or within painter itself. for the grid pattern on the wings i created a custom material in designer to save on poly count and panel work on the cockpit in normal space for the same reason. once textured i brought the model into the Foundry's Katana where i narrowed in on the look development, ensuring that my textures were being brought to life in a faithful manner. all of the lights in the scene are also driven through Katana. for the animated cameras i used Maya to animate and then exported them back into Katana. Once my shots were rendered i brought them into the Foundry's nuke for a final colour grade, adding in the star filled background and adjusting the glow on both the lasers and the Tie Fighters rear lights. all up this project took me approximately 100~ hours to complete
